About the weaving workshop Mýrifípan

Olevina Joensen founded the weaving workshop Mýrifípan in the middle of the last century. In 1993, the business was officially incorporated.

We are located in a basement in Stoffalág in Tórshavn. There you’ll find both weaving machines and the 9 sock machines, in addition to other machines related to production. The storage is located elsewhere in the city.

The weaving workshop

Both weaving machines are German. One, a Schönherr, dates from around 1893 and was purchased and imported to the Faroe Islands in 1970. It is of an older style with rollers to control the shafts and with large, heavy shuttles.

The other is a Dornier, which was bought used from Denmark in 1997. It is more modern with punch cards to control the shafts and colors, using hooks instead of shuttles (rapier loom).

In addition, there are winding machines for winding regular bobbins, as well as making bobbins for the shuttles.

The sock workshop

We purchased four of the sock machines and related equipment in the summer of 2004 from the Textile Factory in Kaldbak. Three machines were bought from Norway in the spring of 2006, one from Sweden in 2009, and the latest was also purchased in the spring of 2017 from Sweden.

All the machines are English, of the Bentley Komet type. There are a total of 6 machines that knit woolen socks, one that can knit terry, and two for knitting finer socks. In addition to the knitting machines, we have other machinery that is part of the production process.
